Heidi / The most watched Swiss film of all time! Sold in more than 50 countries …
Tonight Rai Uno offers its viewers “Heidi“: The 2015 film, directed by Alain Gsponer and based on the novel of the same name by Johanna Spyri, tells the story of Heidi: from life with her aunt Dete to that in the Swiss mountains with her grandfather, the” Old Man of the Alpe ”, frowned upon by the population, until the move to Frankfurt and friendship with Clara, the daughter of Mr. Sesemann confined to a wheelchair. However, Heidi will have to deal with the strict housekeeper, Miss Rottenmeier, and her longing for her grandfather and the beloved mountains. It is currently the most commercially successful Swiss cinema of all time (the film has been sold in over 50 countries around the world). The film was shot in various Alpine locations, mainly in the canton of Graubünden, such as Bergün and Rheinwald. In German-speaking Switzerland and Germany the film was released on 10 December 2015, while in Italian-speaking Switzerland and Italy it arrived on 24 March 2016 (adj. By FD Zaza).
Anuk Steffen and the Canton of Graubünden
Tonight it airs on Rai Uno “Heidi“. In the Swiss-German film of 2015, the very young Anuk Steffen, who was only 10 years old during the filming, plays Heidi. The very young was chosen from among 500 candidates during the castings in 2015 because she was born in the Canton of Grisons and therefore speaks the same dialect as Heidi. Director Alan Gsponer said in an interview that during the first casting he found the very young actress “exciting”, for her bright eyes and her “intelligent way of acting”. However, after the great success obtained with this film, the young interpreter decided not to go on with her film career. It is not yet known that in the future it will be possible to see her again on the big screen, until now she has not taken part in other projects. The shooting of the film took place in the canton of Grisons, precisely in the areas of Bergun and Rheinwald in Switzerland. In the film, in fact, you can see great mountain panoramas, which take shape when before they were only imaginary in the novel or cartoon (adj. By FD Zaza).
The (positive) criticism of Marianna Cappi
Heidi it is “a curated and successful adaptation that looks at the nineteenth-century novel and at the example of Belle and Sebastien”. Marianna Cappi promotes the film with three stars out of the five made available by the portal and specifies: “The film by Gsponer, very faithful to the novel, works on the historical location: on the weight of rumors and superstitions that animate a world at the dawn of the industrial revolution so as on the formality of human relations and on the existence of small pockets of resistance within class society or outside it ”. The film does not entirely succeed in re-proposing the climate of the cartoon that has made millions of children grow up, despite this it creates a different world and that manages to give very interesting ideas. Heidi we will see him in prime time on Rai 1, Click here to watch it live streaming on RaiPlay.
Heidi, the curiosities
Heidi is inspired by the 1880 novel written by Johanna Spyri, although in the 70s the television broadcast the cartoon developed by Hayao Miyazaki, the film is far from this version. Up to now in Switzerland it is the best-selling film in the world, it has been exported to 50 countries. After their first film experience, the actors Steffen and Agrippi have declared that they do not give up this profession. Going back in time, Heidi appears on television in 1920, with a short film made in America and without dialogue. The first film inspired by Spyri’s novel dates back to 1937 with the Dutch titled Zoccoletti, the part of Heidi was assigned to Shirley Temple. To see the first Swiss film about the girl in the mountains on the screens, you have to wait until 1952, directed by Luigi Comencini, entitled Son tornata per te. Curiosity comes from Switzerland where in the German canton the film was released on 10 December 2015 while in the Italian one we only saw it on 24 March 2016.

The solitary man with a gruff character does not accept the girl willingly, but he has no alternative. At first the relationship is detached but then Heidi’s sweetness and lightheartedness manage to bring a smile to the old man’s face. The girl befriends Peter, who earns his living by caring for a flock of sheep that he always takes to pasture in the high mountains.
The boy has a blind grandmother and Heidi quickly becomes her friend. The days for the little girl pass happily and carefree until her aunt reappears and takes her away from the mountains to move her to the house of a wealthy family in Frankfurt to keep company with the owner’s disabled daughter.
